Ulster Carpets acquires Axfelt

February 19, 2020

Ulster Carpets is pleased to announce the acquisition of Axfelt, manufacturers of high quality and fully sustainable underlay. The purchase of this successful brand further demonstrates Ulster’s commitment to developing complementary products to enhance its customer offering. Ulster’s ethos and future plans very much revolve around quality and service excellence, and these standards will be brought to bear at Axfelt ensuring the existing product is fully supported and developed at the existing Axminster Carpets base.

David Acheson, Ulster’s Head of Strategic Operations commented, “We are delighted to be playing a part in the immediate retention of one part of the facility at the Axminster Carpets site. Working with the current employees, Ulster is committed to growing and developing this highly successful product in Devon. Ulster Carpets are already developing a number of related businesses in the locality with a view to further increasing employment opportunities as it continues to expand its wider brand portfolio.”

Axfelt is made from 100% recycled materials, including wool rich carpet and rubber tyres. This fits perfectly with Ulster’s desire to develop environmentally responsible UK based manufacturing facilities. The recycled nature of the product was an important factor in the decision and it is planned that the Axfelt production facility will become a future Group hub for developments in recycling, as well as a home for repurposing the Group’s current yarn and carpet waste. The acquisition is being funded from cash reserves and continues to reflect Ulster’s philosophy of acquiring high quality businesses in the floor covering and luxury interiors sector.

Ryalux Carpets Closing Down

March 21, 2018

Airea Plc

Proposed closure of Ryalux Carpets Limited

Airea Plc , a leading UK specialist floorcoverings manufacturer, is proposing to close its retail carpets business. Operating as Ryalux Carpets Limited, the business offers high quality broad loom carpets available through retail outlets.  The Company will be entering into a formal consultation period with circa 50 employees concerning the proposal and is exploring opportunities for some employees to transfer to other parts of the Group.

The closure proposal follows a period of significant loss making despite the implementation of a range of initiatives to improve business performance including new product development, site rationalisations and strict cost and working capital controls. The trading environment for residential carpets has worsened and the ongoing trend to cheaper synthetic products has led to further declines in demand for high quality wool carpets

The closure which is anticipated to be completed by 30 April 2018 is likely to be cash generative and proceeds will be distributed to shareholders.

The contract flooring business, which accounts for 74% of group turnover, operating under the Burmatex brand continues to be highly profitable and cash generative and the Company will be able to accelerate its investment into the development & growth of the Burmatex business. This fits with the Company's strategy of focusing investment behind profitable product niches to drive long term market growth and value within the commercial flooring sector.

Airea plc will be announcing its preliminary results for the eighteen months ended 31 December 2017 on Wednesday 21st March 2018

New for Autumn 2017 from Cormar

August 18, 2017

Hot on the heels of the recent Sensation launch comes Soft Focus Heathers, a new super soft, easy clean carpet from Cormar Carpets, the UK’s leading independent tufted carpet manufacturer.

Using the same fine, soft polypropylene Finesse fibre as the original Soft Focus range, the new addition is a 10th gauge, deep pile carpet that is ideal for all areas of the home and has a 10 year stain and wear warranty.

With a strong palette of contemporary greys and neutrals, there are 12 heather shades to choose from including Nocturne and Lunar Grey, and comes in both 4m and 5m widths.

“Soft Focus has been a real success for us so it made sense to broaden the palette and give consumers the choice of more tonal colours,” said David Cormack, marketing director of Cormar Carpets. “There’s an interesting regional balance with plains more popular in the south east but nationally, heathers are very strong for Cormar.”

All Cormar’s wool twist, wool loop and easy clean polypropylene ranges are produced on site at its Lancashire mills and distributed in the UK and Eire via its own delivery fleet. For further information on any Cormar Carpets range visit www.cormarcarpets.co.uk
