Top Tips for Caring for New Carpets

There’s nothing quite like the look and feel of new carpets. They bring warmth, comfort, and style to your home, and naturally you want that look, feel and enjoyment to last.

For this edit we have some practical tips to help you keep your carpets in tip top condition.

Caring for your new carpet

When our in-house fitting team have fitted your new carpets, they vacuum to remove any small stray fibres that get left behind. After which carpets should be vacuumed regularly, at least two to three times a week and daily in heavy traffic areas.

Regular vacuuming removes dirt and debris which prolongs the look and life of your carpets and creates a healthy and more hygienic home environment.

A large, strong doormat will reduce dirt from outside being spread around the house and removing your shoes at the front door will lessen the impact of everyday wear and tear.

Top Tip – Regularly move furniture before vacuuming to reduce indentations.

Cleaning your carpet

The key to tackling spills on carpets is to act fast to avoid the risk of staining.

Remove any semi- solid substances with a plastic spatula, then blot away liquid with dry kitchen towel or a clean white dry cloth.

If spills and stains are allowed to dry, it makes them much harder to remove, but remember to be patient – don’t rub vigorously or over-soak the stain as you can make stains worse.

Always work from the outside of the stain inwards to minimise it spreading and clean off any remaining stains, by blotting with a clean, damp cloth.

When the stain has been removed, carefully blot the carpet dry with kitchen towel.
